###WNF doet poging tot schoonpraten

Geachte heer Den Breejen,
Hartelijk dank voor uw e-mail en onze excuses voor de late reactie.
Namens het Wereld Natuur Fonds, kom ik graag bij u terug op uw vraag n.a.v. het artikel in Trouw. Het is inderdaad zo dat de nadruk in het nieuwsbericht van de krant - en zelfs op de voorpagina - is komen te liggen op een concentratie van het nationale natuurbeleid op 3 grote gebieden. Dat zou de indruk kunnen wekken, dat er naast wad, duin, de grote rivieren en het Veluwe Massief geen ruimte in de rest van Nederland zou zijn voor verstandig natuurbeheer. Niets is minder waar.
Nederland kent naast de drie eerder genoemde regio's nog vele honderden kleinere natuurgebieden. Prachtige landschappen, met hun eigen kenmerken. Die moeten absoluut behouden blijven, ook al liggen ze misschien geïsoleerd en hebben ze een minder internationale betekenis. Dat betekent niet dat het Rijk hier ook de baas moet zijn. Directe betrokken partijen, zoals de provincie, of regionale stichtingen of betrokken natuurorganisaties, zijn minstens even goed in staat om deze gebieden te beheren. En waar mogelijk met iets minder bemoeienis uit Den Haag.
In het interview met Trouw pleit WNF-directeur Johan van de Gronden dat, in het licht van de bezuinigingen, in het bijzonder de directe zorg van de rijksoverheid niet verloren mag gaan voor de belangrijkste natuurverbindingen met de rest van Europa. Het herstel van de natuurlijke processen in deze 3 gebieden levert winst op voor de natuur die grensoverschrijdend is. Onze Nederlandse natuur is bijzonder waardevol, niet alleen voor onszelf, maar voor alles wat "vliegt, kruipt en loopt" in en via Europa.
Het WNF zet zich in overal ter wereld in om natuurlijke systemen in grote gebieden te herstellen. In het belang van dieren en planten, én in het belang van de mensen die er leven. Met die ervaring en met een blik over de landsgrenzen, geeft het WNF haar visie op de natuur in Nederland. Achter de schermen spreekt WNF regelmatig met organisaties als Natuurmonumenten en Staatsbosbeheer; beide organisaties hebben een fantastische expertise wat betreft natuurbeheer, in alle hoeken en gaten van Nederland. WNF hoopt dat met het luiden van de noodklok richting Staatssecretaris Bleker het verlies van natuur in Nederland kan worden omgedraaid.
Mocht blijken dat er op dit punt verschillen van inzicht blijven tussen u en de visie van het Wereld Natuur Fonds - dat deze geaccepteerd dienen te worden in het kader van 'agree to disagree'.
