Het was zomer 1995. Zes wekenlang verbleven we op een camping in Zuid-Frankrijk te Octon. Al vanaf de eerste dag huppelde een klein zwart poesje rondom onze vouwwagen. Alle drie onze kinderen waren helemaal dol op haar. Ze vroegen: ‘mogen wij deze poes mee naar huis nemen?’ Nou dat mocht, mits de poes nog zes weken bij ons zou komen. En ja hoor! Ze bleef de hele vakantie bij ons. We kochten eten voor haar en ontvlooiden haar…. Ook dat was hard noig! Een klein zwart sierlijk poesje met aan het uiteinde van haar lange staart een knobbeltje: wat was ze mooi! Onze kinderen hadden al een naam bedacht voorhaar: ‘Minou’.
Aan het einde van de vakantie was het zover. Minou ging mee in onze volgepakte auto. Onze middelste dochter zou haar vasthouden. Het ging allemaal prima en zó werd Minou Nederlandse! Thuisgekomen moest ze wel even wennen aan onze andere twee katten; maar al spoedig rende ze vrolijk rond. En ze werd volwassen en … krols! De katers lagen in de tuin op wacht. Minou werd al snelzwanger en ze kreeg een nestje van vijf prachtige zwarte katjes. Ze was een hele trotse moeder poes. Wat hebben we genoten van deze ‘kraamtijd’. Ik maakte toastjes met blauwe en roze muisjes voor de vriendinnen die op kraambezoek kwamen. Na een tijd waren alle katjes naar hun gouden mandjes.
Minou was en bleef een franse kat: ze lustte chocolat; bovendien praatte ik altijd Frans tegen haar en dan luisterde ze extra goed…. In die tijd bestond de pil nog voor poezen en die gaf ik haar. Minou ging toch nog op pad. Ze bleef toch een camping poes…Op een zondagmorgen kwam ze niet thuis. We hebben haar nooit meer gezien. Wat hadden we een verdriet. Wel weten we dat Minou een geweldig leven bij ons heeft gehad! Minou onze franse kat!
