Zeilmeisje Laura Dekker is zaterdagavond Nederlandse tijd aangekomen op het eiland Sint Maarten. Daarmee heeft ze haar solozeiltocht rond de wereld afgemaakt.

Dekker is de jongste persoon die deze tocht ooit heeft gemaakt, maar ze krijgt geen vermelding in het Guinness Book of Records. De organisatie heeft de "jongste-categorie" geschrapt, omdat ze jongeren niet meer tot gevaarlijke acties wil aanzetten.
Interviews
Media hebben wel veel aandacht voor het zeilmeisje. Meer dan driehonderd media willen Dekker interviewen. Vooral haar strubbelingen met jeugdzorg wekken de interesse van journalisten.
Volgens de BBC had Dekker geen nachtmerries over piraten, maar over de kinderbescherming. CNN noemt de reis van Dekker historisch en controversieel. Het Duitse dagblad Bild schrijft dat Dekker heeft gewonnen van golven, wind, deining en "iedereen die niet in haar wilde geloven".
Nieuw-Zeeland
Het gevecht met jeugdzorg, die Dekker uit huis wilde plaatsen en onder toezicht stelde, is voor het zeilmeisje reden geweest de Nederlandse vlag op haar schip te vervangen voor die van Nieuw-Zeeland. Omdat Dekker voor de kust van het land is geboren, heeft ze de Nieuw-Zeelandse nationaliteit. Ze is van plan zich daar te vestigen.
Dekker zou tijdens haar zeiltocht onderwijs op afstand volgen en haar havo afmaken, maar dat is niet gelukt. De leerplicht van het meisje was voor jeugdzorg reden tegen haar zeilplannen te protesteren.
Dekker vertrok in augustus 2010 als veertienjarige op haar reis rond de wereld. Ze is diverse keren gestopt en ook een keer teruggevlogen naar Nederland, om op zeilbeurs Hiswa over haar reis te vertellen.
